Mark Martin won this race last year, Kyle Busch the year before.
Juan Pablo Montoya and No. 42 Target Team
Lady in Black History: Montoya will be making his fourth-career start at Darlington Raceway this weekend. His best starting position of 19th came in 2008 and his best finish of 20th occurred at last year’s race. Montoya has completed 1098 of the 1011 (99.7%) laps at the track “too tough to tame”.
Richmond Review: Juan Pablo Montoya and Team Target rallied under the lights at Richmond International Raceway to come home with a sixth-place finish. The top-10 finish is the fifth for the team this season and the sixth-place finish is Montoya’s best finish at the quarter-mile facility. Montoya had started 19th in the event and ran in the top-10 for the majority of the race.
In the Points: The fifth top-10 finish of the season for the Target team moved Montoya up to 18th in the NSCS point standings, just 104 points out of 12th—the cutoff for the Chase.
Top-10 Ratings: Juan Pablo Montoya and the No. 42 Target team may sit 18th in the NSCS points, but that does not back-up the 2010 statistics. Montoya currently is sixth among drivers for laps in the top-15, fifth for green flag speed, fifth in fastest laps run, fifth in fastest drivers early in a run, and ranks seventh in the overall driver rating with a 90.9.
Rev the Vote: The 2010 Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway is less than three weeks away. By logging on to www.nascar.com/promos/allstar/?sc_cid=allstar6, texting “Vote” to “7777” on a Sprint phone or visiting a voting booth in the Sprint Experience mobile display unit at an upcoming race you can vote Montoya and the No. 42 Target team into the race. Also, an incentive to Sprint customers, every vote submitted via Sprint or Nextel mobile counts as double in the driver standings. Voting runs through Saturday, May 22, ending one hour prior to the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race. Votes are unlimited, so be sure to keep voting!
Printer Friendly: If you’ve been tagged by friends in photos on Facebook and would like to print them yourself, Target has a new application that allows you to do so. The application will let you print photos directly from Facebook to be picked up at the closest Target, all within as little as an hour.
CHASSIS INFO
No. 42 Target Chevrolet (NSCS): Chassis #910. Brian Pattie will bring chassis #910 to Darlington this weekend. It was previously at Las Vegas Motor Speedway where Montoya qualified tenth and finished 37th after an on-track altercation while running in the top-10. This chassis also ran in the 2009 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway where a mid-race incident forced the team to a 38th-place finish. _________________ Never take life seriously. This is one of just three tracks where Juan has never had a top-10...and funnily enough the others (Homestead and Vegas) are the two tracks where chassis #910 has been used. Given #910 is currently averaging a 37.5 finish the omens aren't exactly promising for this weekend....
I think the aim this week has got to be a personal best finish...last year's race was massively attritional and despite having some damage after the #6 spun right in front of us, Juan was able to hang on and ended up actually making up ground in the points because so many of the other Chase contenders wrecked. From Dover onwards there isn't a single track where a top-10 or even a top-5 is not achievable given past and current form. So just need to get through this one without taking too big a hit and it's all to play for. |

This is a fast chassis. Remember at Homestead when he was about to take the lead when the caution came out and on the restart got together with Stewart and all heck broke loose. Then at Vegas was running top 10 until you know what. |

He keeps getting better and better the more he learns about the tracks and gets experience on them. I think he can pull of a top-15 if he doesn't wreck. |

Still not much going on here!
In the first practice Juan and Jamie both made contact with the wall. Jamie is going to a back up, Juan, not yet, lol! If that sounds kind of sad, just wait, it gets better.
Juan was 9th in first practice. Sucky averages really... Jamie ended back in 30th, he was trying for his best lap right at the end of the session when he crashed.
In the second practice, Jamie's back-up set the pace, while Juan's team repaired the rear of the car, and Juan drove it to 5th. Sucky averages again, but at least he can qualify without knowing he's going to the back, like Jamie, Biffle, Mears, Speed, Nemecheck, Ambrose, Earnhardt, Logano, Bowyer and Kvapil. Also, Kurt Busch spun, Kyle Busch hit the wall. Crazy day so far I would say!
Qualifying starts in about an hour, Juan goes out 31st on a track when a late draw can mean everything. Matt Kenseth won the pole last year just because he went out late (He's just a dispicable qualifyer). The cars that go out after Juan that could be a threat are Brian Vickers, Jeff Gordon, Sam Hornish Jr, Regan Smith, and Dave Blaney. _________________ Never take life seriously. Jamie on the pole! jayski.com said it was a back-up car, but really its not! So Jamie gets to start first!
Juan's lap looked darty, and he'll start 15th. _________________ Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway. |

It's an impound race so they will not be able to change the car after qualifying. I'm not concerned about qualifying here. If they were working on race pace they will be fine. _________________

I thought the only impound races were Daytona, Talladega, and Richmond _________________ Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway. |

actually a "Modified" impound race they can work on the cars but they will not be able to turn laps so if there is damage they can fix it but chassis tuning would be guess work. so most will or i should say have practiced for racing not necessary qualifying _________________

Congratulations to Jamie on the pole!
Hope JPM can pull of a good finish tomorrow night. Nice little Mother's Day gift for his mother and the mother of his children (and child in the making). _________________

We will be pulling in around the 98 and 34. With an opening as we leave? There must be something wrong with this stall, there is no way it got all the way down to the 15th qualifier to get picked...

I wonder if Juan and Jamie can switch spots... _________________ Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway. |

I think it might be around a turn. That set of stalls might actually be in turn 4, then everyone goes around the turn, and the rest of the stalls are there. I don't really know if thats it, or what is really bad about it. We'll see what happens in the pits tonight, but it will be hard to judge the pit-crew, one way or the other. _________________ Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway. |
