The track
Just a few miles north of The Strip, Las Vegas Motor Speedway sits like a diamond in the desert. One of the most complete racing complexes in the world, its 1,600 acres includes road courses, a three-eighths mile oval, a dirt track and a state-of-the-art drag racing facility. At its heart, however, is the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway, home of a 400-mile race in the Cup Series, as well as Nationwide and Truck series events.

We had a strong run going here last year, Juan was passing Clint Bowyer four wide with two lapped cars when Clint put Juan into the wall early in the race. I think he Juan had a top 5 car that day, as he'd been charging through the pack, but as usual, thanks Clint. _________________ Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway. |

I drove a NASCAR at the Vegas speedway on my 30th birthday last year, so this track holds a special place in my heart. Heres hoping for a good result for Montoya.....and some luck. _________________ My personal site: www.turboboost.netfirms.com |

Last year's Vegas race was a bad result from what should easily have been a top-5, just like yesterday. The #42 has been really strong on intermediate tracks since then...I'd take a solid top-10 finish though and get back in or near the top 12 in points. Can't afford too many more disasters like yesterday, especially as this early stretch of races up to 'Dega are all tracks where Juan has usually gone well. |

I wish I could go see the race. Its a friend's birthday bash, so I am going with 5 of my mates and I do not think all of them want to go see the race! Oh well. I'm shooting for the Phoenix race. |

Hey mate, funny to say, i did some laps in an IRL backseat there, that was amazing, you take more Gs than in a Nascar by definition because you do something like 180mph what is the Vmax of the Cup cars there, but it feels amazing !!
Cheeers,

When I was doing the drive they had ride alongs which topped out at 170 (I think). Driving open wheelers with wings will give you more G' but hanging on to a sliding NASCAR is scary fun.....well thats been my experience with a few different racing vehicles so far. Think driving on the bumpy Daytona highbanks in Feb of last year during speed week was one of the biggest buzz I have had in my life.
Cool pics, was it baking hot when you went......we were cooking in the evening sun out there!!!! _________________ My personal site: www.turboboost.netfirms.com |

Thanks Kittnut buddy, nope the weather was really charming, that was in march and with a good cloud layer, it hardly hit 95°F under the sun, so that was cool, a cool atmosphere for a hot ride !!
When riding 170-180 at the LVMS, especially in an IRL, you have the same Gs that the Nascar drivers (and the machinery) take at these speeds obviously, whatever the line, the driver took inside/low middle lines BTW, but the car doesn't move, contrary to cup cars which slide all the way around !!
Oh, bumpy Daytona must be insane at 90-95% of the full speed for sunday drivers, i should try that someday
Cheers,
