| Formula One Driver for McLaren Mercedes in
the No.4 MP4/21 |
| With the announcement of Fernando
Alonso joining the McLaren Mercedes F1 Team for 2007 Montoya's future
looked uncertain from the outset. Poor reliablity from the car and
embarassing mistakes from both the team and Juan overshadowed the
early part of the season. After a big crash at Indianapolis Juan
shocked the motor-racing world by announcing his move away from
open-wheel racing to go to and race for his old boss/friend Chip
Ganassi in NASCAR. Contested only 10 F1 races in 2006, finished
only 5.
